Jun/02 - TENCOR utilizes Inmate Labor on Work Release to erect their Concrete Panel Cell System;
Saves the County nearly $500,000
over conventional construction.

TENCOR Systems Inc. announces the completion of their latest project for Dorchester County Detention Center, located in Cambridge, Maryland.  This project involved the addition of eight holding beds, an examination room and a general office.

TENCOR's team designed the security envelope for this facility using their innovative 3" reinforced concrete panel system.  The simplicity of the method by which the panels are erected allowed the use of inmate labor for the majority of the construction.  According to Warden Steven Williams, also current President of the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association, the TENCOR System saved Dorchester County almost $500,000 had they proceeded with conventional construction.  The Dorchester facility is a shining example of the significant cost savings achieved by utilizing the TENCOR panel system.

TENCOR's panel system has enjoyed an enthusiastic reception from architects, security consultants and prospective customers since its introduction because it offers impressive advantages over both traditional and modular construction.  The TENCOR System uses panels to create a cost effective secure containment space within a new or existing building.  Rather than metal skin, 6,000 psi concrete makes TENCOR's panels pick-proof, rust-proof, and sound-proof.  The technology of its steel core system, designed to meet earthquake force requirements, provides more security at less expense, and offers complete flexibility of design.

Panels are set into stainless-steel floor channels, preventing rust and contraband concealment.  Space between the exterior structural wall and the interior cell wall can provide a secure maintenance corridor, allowing service work to be completed without contact with inmates.  Steel-to-steel attachment of panels and accessories eliminates the kind of inmate tampering which frequently occurs when attachment is to concrete.  The extremely narrow joints are then caulked with Sonnoborn Ultra epoxy, making them vandal proof.  TENCOR uses only S-Vent® air grilles.  History has proven them to be truly suicide and contraband proof.   An attempted or successful hanging from one has never been reported.  It is for this reason that TENCOR has chosen to use them exclusively.  With doors, hardware, windows, lights, plumbing fixtures and furnishings included, the TENCOR System provides a complete package.
